Tulane professor and internationally acclaimed composer and pianist, Courtney Bryan performs with her quartet. Hailed by The New York Times as “a pianist and composer of panoramic interests,” her music ranges from solo works to large ensembles in the new music and jazz idioms, film scores, and collaborations with dancers, visual artists, writers, and actors, and is in conversation with various musical genres, including jazz and other types of experimental music, as well as traditional gospel, spirituals, and hymns. Focusing on bridging the sacred and the secular, Bryan’s recent compositions explore human emotions through sound, confronting the challenge of notating the feeling of improvisation. Bryan’s work has been presented in a wide range of venues, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, The Museum of Modern Art, National Gallery of Art, Blue Note Jazz Club, and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

Presented In conjunction with The Jazz and Heritage Foundation, the concert consists of one set that will start at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

The Historic New Orleans Collection presents a screening of the silent film SNOW WHITE with Live Musical Accompaniment by renowned improviser Paul Goussot, organist of the historic Dom Bédos organ (built 1748) at the Abbey of Sainte-Croix in Bordeaux, France.

SNOW WHITE Written by and based on Winthrop Ames’ play, inspired by the Grimm Brothers fairy tale. Cast: Marguerite Clark (Snow White), Dorothy G. Cumming (Queen Brangomar), Creighton Hale (Prince Florimond), Lionel Braham (Berthold, the huntsman), Alice Washburn (Witch Hex).
